New Mexico Liberty

Life, Liberty, Politics and Policy in the Land of Enchantment!

Dear New Mexico Voters,

Does Tom Mullins’ muckraking in the political campaign help the debate of who will best serve the third congressional district in New Mexico? A couple of questions for you: How many people serving in the armed services take an oath to support, and defend, the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic...OK that's a trick question, but out of all public servants who have taken this oath, how many take it seriously? Second question; which one of the current military conflicts is lawfully backed by the Constitution, and what article authorizes American imperialism? These questions and questions about how these candidates will restore the liberty of the people need answering. I for one do not judge Adam Kokesh’s patriotism solely on his military service, or the status of his discharge.

Most of the currently serving Republicans are nothing more than warmed over Trotskyites, or are openly socialists. I fear Mr. Mullins is only paying lip service to the Constitution, where Mr, Kokesh has put his future on the line. Mr. Mullins is a new face in the political landscape, and he has not demonstrated his dedication to the People’s liberty. Mr. Mullins would like to abolish the department of Education, as an unconstitutional cabinet position, but what about all of the others: Department of Energy, Health and Human Services Department, Department of Agriculture, Department of Labor, and eight others. Is Mr. Mullins willing to fight for the abolition of all unconstitutional endeavors of government?

Mr. Kokesh has put his life on the line, serving in Iraq. He sees these foreign entanglements we are now engaged in has caused a backlash from the Muslim world. Has Mr. Mullins seen what the Federal government has become? I know that Adam Kokesh will support the Constitution, I am not so sure about Mr. Mullins. Does Mr. Mullins support any socialistic programs currently imposed on the American People? Does he back the government’s use of force, or threatened use of force to steal the money out of the American worker’s to pocketbook to pay for unconstitutional programs? In my opinion, being a little bit socialist is like being a little bit dead. Mr. Mullins is an unknown wildcard. Without concrete positions from Mr. Mullins his mud slinging looks more like a weak candidate trying to drag his opponent down without engaging in meaningful debate.

Well, Louis, thanks to you I have now actually heard of Mr. Mullins. I had certainly not heard of him before. I assume from your post that he is a candidate for the Republican nomination in the 3rd District, and thus a challenger to Adam. I'll have to check him out. Hopefully he is not a full-fledged member of The War Party the Republican apparatus.
Both candidates have never run for elective office so we have no voting records from which to gauge where each one is located on the Republican ideological continuum. I have met both candidates and they both seem genuine in their integrity and passionate reasons for wanting to represent the congressional 3rd. I believe at least one scheduled debate would help people get to know the candidates better. I don't know if the R party plans any public debates. Perhaps it's too early in the election cycle to lock in anything. Obviously, whoever wins the R primary has a tough challenge ahead to dislodge the one-term incumbent Ben Ray Luhan. But that outcome is a very achievable event for either of the candidates, given that we are in a mid-term-throw-the-incumbents-out climate due to the sluggish economy, severe budget deficit, and the spending protectionism still coming out of Santa Fe. I don't think a tax increase this quarter will curry any favor, either.
The Rio Grande Foundation is working to schedule a candidate forum in Santa Fe in late February and a subsequent forum in Farmington sometime in March. Watch the event pages here or on riograndefoundation.org.

To the point, I enjoyed the Tea Party event last night (Saturday) tremendously and I felt that it was a positive thing to see conservatives of all stripes come together. I'd liked to have seen Mullins remain positive (like the rest of the candidates) rather than attacking Kokesh in his remarks.
I wasn't there. I was referring to a R party meeting in which the two Rs addressed the room and at that event were not attacking each other. Was the Tea Party last night set up as a debate, or did it turn into a debate between these two particular candidates?
Last night, John Newby of the Kokesh campaign was present at the ABQ Liberty Forum at Fiesta's, and told us that Adam's campaign is getting the cold shoulder from the people heading up the NMGOP's county affiliates, and that they don't seem to be interested in liberty-minded candidates.

Let's face it — Adam Kokesh is the best candidate running for Congress in this election season for liberty-supporting people. He not only understands the principles, but can just grab a microphone and "roll with it" for an hour, sans notes or cue cards.
