I'm positively shocked that Governor Richardson has been a long time friend of the Hool brothers who are behind the Santa Fe Studios. The project, which I wrote about a few months ago, is being subsidized to the tune of $10 million by state taxpayers with taxpayers in Santa Fe County chipping in another $6 million. The whole thing stinks.
Of course, at the same time as he is pushing for additional subsidies for an already-subsidized industry, Richardson is pushing for tax hikes on the rest of us. The fact is that Richardson loves the film industry because he gets to control the money that is doled out and to whom. Then he takes credit for taxpayers' generosity. Apparently he is not nearly as much of a fan of regular taxpayers spending their money as they see fit.
"Raising taxes on New Mexicans during a historic recession to subsidize the waste, fraud, and abuse taking place in the Roundhouse is completely unacceptable and totally inexcusable," said Susana Martinez. I say, the Dems better apply for movie extra jobs next year at the Santa Fe Studios since all of the ones that are up for 2010 election are toast.
I have to say that had the Governor, the Legislature, and the NM Courts all been dominated by Republicans, we would see similar corruption. When a single political party is in charge, it's just too easy to dip one's hand into the river of money that flows nearby.
This is not to imply that I have any sympathy for the Dems: I think that they are all low in the social order, but slightly higher than serial murderers.

well, what do you expect from Professional Politicians...What's the point of being in politics, if you can't help your buddies out from time to time...that is how they think and behave.
Evidently, Political power corrupts these people...
"A political career is open only to those who identify themselves with the interests of a pressure group." -Ludwig von Mises
"I hope that my modest success in politics may encourage others to try it, and help prove Mises wrong, showing that a politician career is open to men and women who do not identify themselves with the interests of a pressure group, but with the liberty of all."
-Ron Paul
