I am a liberal. I believe in liberty for all. Can some one please explain to me how someone can be regulated and be free.
Just to avoid any idiots I refer to regulation of any peaceful activity.
Please pass this on to all of your conservative and progressive friends just to see if any reply.

The Otero County Commission voted this weel to put the Space Port tax on the ballot in November. We are at the moment assailed by arguments for how "the train is leaving the station", and how we will want to get on board or be left behind. Don't get me wrong. I would love for this to take off and become the bext big thing. My argument is that you can't compare this to public entity ownership of a regular airport. Private space flight barely exists today, and is certainly not an 'industry'. Like any other high risk experimental-stage enterprise, anyone wanting to attempt it should carry the cost of developing it. Branson buys 747's by the dozen. He and his buddies can thrown another $100 M at it or whatever this monstrosity will run. If New Mexico is such an extraordinary place for space flight, that should be pretty easy for them.

Here in Otero County, we're up against yet another GO bond, the very silly space port tax, and the 256th (or so it seems) school bond vote. All that will likely come on the ballot at the same time next March. Who needs enemies with a city & county commission like the ones we have?

It's nice to know that there ARE libertarians in Luna County other than Marilyn Steffen -- I haven't hear anything from that area of the state til now. I'll add this to the next issue of New Mexico Liberty (the newsletter).

Luna County (Deming, Columbus, et al.) libertarians are hotly engaged in hand-wringing discussions of a pending school bond vote, a micromanager's dream zoning ordinance, a so-called "Family Entertainment Center' " and various other near and far issues.
